Skwish Wooden Baby Rattle | Teether Grasping Activity Toy

The NESTA TOYS Skwish Wooden Baby Rattle & Teether is a hands-on sensory toy for babies 6 months and above. Its flexible wooden structure gives little hands opportunities to grasp, squeeze, shake and explore, while the wooden beads create gentle rattling sounds during movement. Made from beech wood with a smooth finish, it combines tactile, auditory and movement-based play in one simple toy.

What Makes the Skwish Rattle Special?

• Flexible grasping design: The flexible structure gives babies different ways to hold, squeeze and manipulate the toy.
• Gentle rattle sounds: Wooden beads produce sound when the Skwish is moved, introducing babies to the connection between movement and sound.
• Hands-on sensory play: Babies can explore the toy through its smooth wooden surfaces, flexible structure, colours and sound.
• Encourages hand-eye coordination: Reaching for, holding and moving the Skwish gives babies opportunities to coordinate what they see with their hand movements.
• Teething-friendly design: The smooth beechwood surfaces provide another way for babies to explore the toy while teething.
• Simple open-ended play: There is no single way to use the Skwish, allowing babies to discover its movement and structure through their own exploration.

How Can Babies Explore the Skwish?

The Skwish can be introduced through simple, supervised interactions.

• Reach and grasp: Place the Skwish within your baby's reach and let them attempt to pick it up and hold it.
• Squeeze and release: Allow your baby to explore the flexible structure by gently squeezing and releasing it.
• Shake and listen: Encourage your baby to move the Skwish and notice the gentle sound produced by the wooden beads.
• Hold and manipulate: As hand control develops, babies can explore different ways of holding and moving the toy.
• Explore textures: Let your baby feel the smooth wooden surfaces and flexible structure.
• Watch the movement: Slowly move the Skwish during supervised play and allow your baby to watch how its parts move.

What Skills Can This Toy Encourage?

The Skwish turns simple baby movements into opportunities for hands-on exploration.

Reach → Grasp → Squeeze → Shake → Listen → Explore

Through these interactions, the toy can provide opportunities to practise:

• Grasping and hand control
• Hand-eye coordination
• Fine motor movements
• Sensory awareness
• Cause-and-effect exploration
• Object manipulation
• Auditory exploration

The current PDP specifically describes the Skwish as supporting grasping, hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, sensory exploration and early problem-solving through manipulation.

Why Choose a Skwish Instead of a Simple Rattle?

A conventional rattle primarily invites babies to hold and shake.

The Skwish adds another layer of interaction through its flexible structure:

Grasp → Squeeze → Move → Shake → Hear

This gives babies more ways to investigate how the toy responds to their movements.

The flexible geometric design also makes the Skwish particularly suited to open-ended sensory exploration, where babies can discover how it moves and feels rather than following a fixed activity.

A Natural Wooden Toy for Everyday Sensory Play

The Skwish is made from beech wood and uses non-toxic colours according to the current PDP. Its smooth wooden surfaces, flexible construction and gentle sounds make it a compact option for everyday hands-on play.

It can be used during supervised floor play, at home or while travelling when an appropriately sized sensory toy is useful.
