This shift matters. What the Evidence Actually Says About Speech and Language
This is one of the more consistently studied areas, and also one of the more misunderstood.
A widely cited JAMA Pediatrics analysis by Madigan and colleagues found a modest association between screen use and weaker expressive and receptive language skills in young children, but the effect was strongest for solitary, non-educational, background viewing, and much weaker or absent when content was co-viewed or genuinely high quality.
