Play Dough Tool set | Rolling Pins & Knife

This wooden play dough tool set gives children simple tools to roll, flatten, texture, shape and cut dough through hands-on play. The smooth and patterned rolling pins create different ways to explore the same material, while the wooden knife adds another step to the activity.

What Makes This Tool Set Useful?

Dough play becomes more engaging when children can actively change the material and see the result of each movement.

• Explore how dough changes: Children can roll, flatten, press and reshape dough and see how pressure and movement change its form.
• Create different textures: The patterned rolling pin leaves impressions in the dough, giving children a simple way to explore patterns and surface textures.
• Practise controlled movements: Rolling with both hands and using the knife to make simple cuts gives children opportunities to coordinate their movements while working with a soft material.
• Open-ended creative play: There is no fixed result to achieve. Children can make shapes, patterns, pretend food or anything else they imagine.
• Repeat and experiment: Dough can be reshaped again and again, allowing children to try a movement, see the result and make changes without needing to start over.

Ways Children Can Play With It

Start with simple dough activities and let your child gradually discover what each tool can do.

• Roll and flatten: Give your child a ball of play dough and let them use the smooth rolling pin to press and roll it into a flat shape.
• Make textured dough: Roll over the flattened dough with the patterned rolling pin and compare the different marks and textures it creates.
• Cut and reshape: Use the wooden knife to divide the dough into pieces, then combine or reshape them into something new.
• Make pretend food: Create simple pretend cookies, pizzas, fruits, vegetables or other foods and use the tools to add details.
• Create a mini bakery: Let your child make pretend food, arrange it on a plate and serve it as part of a bakery, café or kitchen role-play story.
